Up, Up, Up. The Up Experience Part 3

For the first time, I was able to hear “Chef Jeff” (Jeff Henderson) speak. What an impressive human being. He earned the first standing ovation of the day.

I have always believed that at our core we love the comeback stories. And when you’re sitting the audience actually seeing and hearing a comeback, it’s even better. Chef Jeff turned his life around when he learned to cook in prison. He has published cookbooks and been on national television. His message is simple…. Take control of your life, whether it is your personal life or your work life.

Dave Nelson, president of Dialogue Consulting Group and social media expert, followed. Dave stressed how important it is to be up-to-date on social networking tools for your company. He introduced new websites and media outlets that are growing in today’s social networking world.

Next up was Marc Freedman, the Founder and CEO of Civic Ventures and Encore.org. He discussed “Finding Work That Matters in the Second Half of Life”. He gave examples of how to handle work as we grow older and showed how times have changed with the age of retirements.

Sal Khan closed this section. He is beyond impressive. If you do not know the Khan Academy don’t hesitate, check it out now! The Khan Academy is on a mission to provide a free world-class education to anyone anywhere with more than 2,600 videos on topics ranging from arithmetic to history and back.

Sal started his tutoring simply to help his cousins in math but the company has now exploded into schools and homes all over the world. Sal not only has a great story, but he his inspiring, funny and very informative.

After Sal, it was time for another 30 minute break to meet the speakers, take a walk around or have a snack.
